THE CRYSTAL
Installation

INTRO

Crystal mining has become a common hobby and pastime recently. It is done either in public or private mining sites. Mining is portrayed as a group bonding activity, which directed the tone and central ideas when working on this project.

MANDATE

Based on an article from the New York Times, the goal was to convey the journey crystal miners go through and the adventurous aspect of it. To art direct the creation of a handmade piece and the article’s photography.

OUTCOME

The final photo was how we envisioned, portraying all the critical elements of the article and incorporating the teams’ ideas and vision equally.

PROCESS

There was a lot of trial and error; no planning was strictly adhered to throughout the project. There was only a loose idea for the final piece. This is because we attempted many approaches, such as making a more miniature “mock-up” and then taking it apart and adjusting components to our liking, using 3D software to visualize and easily modify. All these attempts could not fully represent our wanted outcome. Therefore, we collectively decided to explore loosely and creatively as a team to incorporate everyone’s thoughts and ideas.
