INTRO
Alexiou Dota founded a design studio in Greece in 2020, where she practices computational design and biology. Her work combines art, science, and technology, utilizing simple mathematics and algorithms mixed with innate qualities. Alexiou uses 3D rendering and printing to create designs that showcase both discreteness and infinity, but not just plain copies of natural forms. She holds degrees in Nanotechnologies, Advanced Design and Biology, and Architectural Design. Alexiou codifies the design process towards enchanting algorithms and creativity enhancers, utilizing textual programming, organized complexity, high-level architectures, symmetry, fashion, and digital fabrication. Her work draws inspiration from biological forms and their behavior, with a focus on complex processes and patterning.
MANDATE
Generative algorithmic design methods, coupled with digital morphogenesis, allow the creation of complex structures and patterns that are beyond what our senses can perceive in nature. By encoding patterns of living systems and rhythms, designers can create unique structures that embody haecceities, or the qualities that make something unique. However, our sensory perception is limited by what our senses can detect and is selective to the material world. This is where avant-garde and neo-romantic ideas come into play, drawing on the works of Aldous Huxley, myth, pattern, and ritual. Archetypes are psychic power patterns that dwell in the layers of the unconscious, mapping the world and ourselves.
OUTCOME
The DNA strip inspires the logo, representing the company’s core. All of the artwork and designs are based off computer-based algorithms. These algorithms are con- sidered the DNA of these biological designs and forms created. I wanted to represent that in the logo by using a graphic device while also alluding to the initials in the device itself. The device will work standing alone, as well as with the company name. The logo will be kinetically transformed for the brand’s platform further to express the fluidity and movement of the brand.

PROCESS
